More About Me
Hi, I'm Susie
This isn't a "before and after" story. It's a "small shift by small shift" story.
It's very real. Very honest. And I'd like to share it with you.
My Season of Stuck
The path to feeling stuck wasn't marked by one catastrophic event - it was paved with years of small compromises, ignored warning signs, and the gradual erosion of my own health in service of everyone else's.
As a Gen X woman raising four children while building a career in nonprofit leadership, I embodied the cultural expectation to "do it all" without acknowledging the cost.
My stuckness intensified in my mid 40s, managing financial instability despite professional success, navigating my children's complex mental health needs, and carrying the emotional weight of generational trauma I hadn't yet recognized. The overindulgent parenting patterns I developed to heal my own childhood wounds created additional financial pressure and taught my children that their disappointment was intolerable to me.

When family crisis collided with professional demands during the pandemic, I reached a breaking point I didn't even recognize at the time. Leading an organization through unprecedented challenges while supporting children through mental health crises, I was drowning in plain sight. My body began speaking in ways I couldn't ignore - weight gain, depression, high blood pressure, emotional eating cycles - all symptoms of carrying more than one person should bear. I remember feeling mentally paralyzed most days. I couldn't describe it to anyone in a way they could understand and my doctors were dismissive. They told me all of my symptoms were due to my weight gain.
This is how so many capable, intelligent women find themselves stuck: not through personal failure, but through the collective heaviness of daily routines we are buried within, unprocessed trauma, and the the world whispering (or shouting) that there is nothing "wrong", invalidating the truths we feel in every cell of our bodies.
The emptiness in my eyes; the expression on my face tightly held together; and the short-lived bursts of energy I forced myself to muster to hide the unraveling. That's how I existed for a full 6-years.
Sprinkles of Light
Even in my darkest seasons, tiny sparks of light began appearing, small moments that reminded me I was still there, beneath all the caregiving and crisis management. These weren't dramatic breakthroughs, but gentle awakenings that would eventually guide me back to myself.
The first light came through radical self-permission: choosing to spend Saturdays alone, hiking with audiobooks, despite the guilt of leaving my family. In those solitary hours, I rediscovered something I'd forgotten, I actually enjoyed my own company. This simple act of prioritizing my needs, even briefly, felt revolutionary after decades of constant availability to others.
Other sparks emerged in unexpected places. My newfound passion for skincare and makeup wasn't vanity, it was the first time in years I'd invested energy in nurturing myself rather than fixing everyone else. The biohacking journey that led me to track my metrics wasn't about perfection, but curiosity about my own body and needs.
An anniversary trip to Italy became a turning point where my husband and I remembered how to dream together beyond survival mode. We talked about possibilities, about retirement in Europe, about what life could look like when we weren't just getting through each day.

These moments taught me that joy doesn't require permission or perfect circumstances. It emerges when we create even tiny spaces for our authentic selves to breathe. The "sprinkles of light" weren't rewards for getting everything right—they were glimpses of who I still was beneath all the roles and responsibilities.

Emerging from Stuck
Emerging from stuck wasn't a destination I arrived at - it's an ongoing practice of choosing myself daily while honoring the season I'm in. The transformation happened through layers of small, sustainable shifts that eventually created profound change in my life and work.
The turning point came through accepting support—first medical intervention for my physical health, then professional recognition in a new role where my expertise was valued. But the final piece was my ADHD diagnosis and treatment, which gave me access to the sustained focus I'd always craved. Suddenly, the ideas that had lived in my head for years could be executed with consistency and joy.
My current season is characterized by what I call "integrated wellness"—no longer compartmentalizing my health, work, and relationships, but seeing them as interconnected aspects of a life worth living. I take medication that supports my brain and body. I work in an environment that celebrates my competence. I'm launching Power of Little from a place of authentic service rather than desperate proving.
The woman who once couldn't get out of bed now leads with energy and purpose. The mother who raged at her children's ingratitude has learned to hold space for complex emotions. The professional who felt invisible now creates resources that help other women reclaim their voices.
This isn't a "before and after" story. It's a "small shift by small shift" story.
Every day, I choose practices that support my continued emergence: boundaries that protect my energy, work that aligns with my values, and relationships that honor my full humanity.
If you're a woman navigating your own season of feeling stuck - whether it's the brain fog and exhaustion of perimenopause, the disconnection that comes with midlife transitions, or the depression and lack of motivation that can settle in during times of change - this same small-shift-by-small-shift approach can become your path forward. Power of Little isn't about dramatic transformation; it's about creating space for your own ongoing emergence, one sustainable choice at a time.
